Celebrating New Appointments (Scheme 9) is a London Mathematical Society grant scheme providing partial support for meetings held to celebrate the new appointment of a lecturer at a UK university. Grants are intended for inaugural meetings held within two years of the start date of the new appointment and should strengthen the research network and provide opportunities for students and mathematicians to focus on the research area. Meetings must take place in the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands and normally be open to all.

Benefits

Up to £400–£500 towards visiting lecturers' and visiting research students' travel, accommodation and subsistence; contribution to a social event; allowance for caring costs.

Eligibility

Applicants must be a mathematician based in the UK, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands at the time of application and when the event is planned; non-LMS members require support from an LMS member. The meeting must be held in the UK, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands and the inaugural meeting must take place within two years of the start date of the new appointment (with specified exceptions).
