Information

The Atiyah UK–Lebanon Fellowships fund short-term visits by mathematicians between the UK and Lebanon to promote research collaboration and teaching. UK-based mathematicians may visit Lebanon for between one week and up to six months, typically hosted at the Centre for Advanced Mathematical Sciences (CAMS) at the American University of Beirut. Mathematicians from Lebanon (advanced MSc/PhD level or higher) may visit the UK for up to 12 months for study or research with support from a UK host institution.

Benefits

Travel contribution up to £2,000; accommodation and subsistence support up to £2,200 per month (maximum £6,600); possible additional subsistence/payment for teaching; CAMS support with accommodation and office space for UK->Lebanon fellows.

Eligibility

For UK to Lebanon visits: applicants must hold a post at a UK university or otherwise demonstrate strong links to the UK and be established mathematicians. For Lebanon to UK visits: applicants must demonstrate a strong connection with Lebanon and be at least advanced MSc/PhD level or higher; applications from more advanced researchers are also welcome. A UK host academic institution must support Lebanon-to-UK applicants.

Application

Submit the LMS application form for the relevant visit category. Applicants organise their own travel and visas; LMS can supply an official letter for visa purposes on request. Lebanon->UK applicants require support from a UK host institution.
