London Mathematical Society United Kingdom 2026

Information

The LMS Early Career Fellowships provide 3–6 month fellowships to mathematicians transitioning between the PhD and a postdoctoral position. They are aimed at researchers who have recently received or will shortly receive their PhD and who demonstrate strong research links outside their PhD institution. The award includes a monthly stipend and a relocation/collaboration allowance and may be held at one or more institutions. Fellowships are partially supported by the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical Research and UKRI/EPSRC additional funding.

Benefits

Monthly stipend of £1,820 and a one-off £800 relocation/collaboration allowance; entitlement to spend time on research with up to three hours/week teaching permitted.

Eligibility

Applicants must be UK residents at the time of the closing date and must have recently received or will shortly receive their PhD; the Fellowship should start after thesis submission and normally not more than nine months after the PhD was awarded (excluding career breaks).

Application

Complete the online application form and upload a Case for Support (CV, publications, research proposal and career development plans), host confirmation letter(s), and a reference from an academic outside the applicant's home institution; a second reference (normally PhD supervisor) must be emailed directly to the LMS by the closing date.
