Library of Africa and the African Diaspora (LOATAD) Accra, Ghana 2025

Information

The LOATAD Black Atlantic Residency Program 2025 invites writers from across Africa and the Diaspora to participate in a one-month residency in Accra, Ghana, with a stipend and travel support, access to LOATAD’s library resources, and opportunities for public engagement. The program focuses on themes of African solidarities and the role of writing in contemporary movements, culminating in an anthology publication. Applicants are selected to contribute a 2,500–10,000 word piece and participate in workshops and events during the residency.

Benefits

Travel stipend (up to $600), 1 month room and board, stipend of $500, access to library resources, trips within Ghana, meetings with key players in the literary community.

Eligibility

Beginner, Emerging and Established writers from and/or based in Africa, the Caribbean, North America, South America, and Europe whose work engages with Africa and/or the Diaspora, specifically The Black Atlantic. Writers can write in any language but must be able to communicate in English. Writers must be aged 21 or over and able to travel to Ghana.

Application

Submit a single PDF including a letter of motivation, description of engagement with the residency themes, writing sample (<=1500 words) with English translation if needed, and two referees by 18 August 2024 via the provided application form.
