Getty Scholars Program — Scholar Grants (Getty Research Institute)

Fellowship
Getty Research Institute Los Angeles, United States 2026

Information

The Getty Scholars Program is a residential research program that supports innovative research in art history and visual culture. Scholar Grants are appointments for established researchers and professionals to conduct research while in residence at the Getty Center or Getty Villa and to participate in a cohort focused on an annual theme. Appointments provide access to the Getty’s library, collections, and local scholarly community and facilitate collaboration across disciplines. The program includes parallel predoctoral and postdoctoral fellowships and dedicated appointments under specific Getty initiatives.

Benefits

Residential appointment at the Getty Center or Getty Villa; access to Getty library and collections; participation in a cohort of scholars, lectures, and collaborative activities.

Eligibility

Scholar Grant applicants should have received a PhD before September 1, 2022; applicants without a PhD but with commensurate professional experience (5–7 years) will also be considered. The program selects a mix of senior scholars and junior fellows and applicants should apply to the appropriate category based on degree status.

Application

Applicants apply to the appropriate category (Scholar Grants, Postdoctoral, or Predoctoral) and submit an individual application; team project members must each submit applications individually.
