Cancer Research UK United Kingdom 2026

Information

The Early Detection and Diagnosis Primer Award is a Cancer Research UK grant supporting new and pioneering research ideas and pilot studies of high scientific risk to stimulate and develop the early detection and diagnosis field. Awards can support novel technologies, new collaborations, training and lab exchanges, or early validation work with a line-of-sight to clinical or population impact. Funding is intended to enable generation of data or collaborations that form the basis for larger research projects.

Benefits

Grant funding up to £100,000 for projects of up to one year.

Eligibility

Applicants must be a scientist, clinician or healthcare worker based in a UK university, medical school, hospital or research institution. Researchers from all career stages are welcome to apply; when an early career researcher is lead or joint lead, inclusion of an established researcher as co-applicant is strongly recommended.

Application

Applicants should have host institution approval before submission and are recommended to contact Cancer Research UK for an informal discussion prior to applying. Applications are submitted through Cancer Research UK’s funding application process.
