Italian Fellows Program

The Italian Fellows Program places Italian artists and scholars in residence at the American Academy in Rome to pursue independent projects and participate in the Academy’s interdisciplinary community. Fellowships require residence at the Academy and vary in length by award; all include a single room, board, and a stipend. Individual fellowships include curated positions (e.g., curatorial research), a postdoctoral fellowship in Modern Italian Studies, and a fellowship in Musical Composition.

Single room, board, stipend, residency at the American Academy in Rome, access to libraries/archives/museums and the Academy community.

Eligibility varies by fellowship: curatorial fellowship is for Italian and Italian-based curators; the Modern Italian Studies fellowship requires Italian citizenship and a PhD completed between 2019 and 2026-09-01; candidates must demonstrate relevant maturity in their field and basic proficiency in spoken English.

Applications submitted online via the Academy application form or by email to if@aarome.org for specified fellowships; supporting materials required include project proposal, writing sample, CV, and letters of recommendation where specified.
