The Matsumae International Foundation (MIF) Japan Fellowship 2027

Call for applications for the MIF Research Fellowship Program 2027 in Japan. The program supports outstanding non-Japanese researchers to conduct six-month fellowships at Japanese host institutions, with a focus on natural science, engineering, medicine and agriculture. It includes cultural exposure and aims to build international networks and mutual understanding.

Monthly allowance of JPY 220,000; one-time arrival fund of JPY 120,000; round-trip economy-class airfare to Tokyo; overseas travel insurance; cultural study tour to Hiroshima.

Ph.D. at the time of application; age 45 or younger; must hold a full-time occupation in their home country and plan to return after the fellowship; must obtain acceptance from a host institution in Japan; sufficient English or Japanese language ability.

Submit a completed application form with reason for application, a recent photo, letter of acceptance from a host professor in Japan, detailed research plan (max 5 pages), CV with publications, a recommendation letter from current employer, and a copy of Ph.D. certificate.
