About this opportunity

The Japan-Africa Exchange Scholarship Programme offers co-sponsored research fellowships for postgraduate researchers from Africa and Japan. African researchers can conduct research at Kyoto University in Japan, while Japanese researchers can carry out research at institutes in African universities. The goal is to foster collaboration and mutual learning in the field of African Studies.

Benefits & funding

Financial support ranging from €22,500 to €27,500 per year, pro-rated for shorter stays; covers living costs and travel expenses; research period of 6–12 months with flexible timing.

Eligibility

Postgraduate researchers from Africa or Japan who hold at least a Master’s degree and are affiliated as postdoctoral fellows or faculty with Kyoto University or its African partner institutions; African applicants must provide a reference letter from a prospective host at Kyoto University.

How to apply

Prepare required documents (research plan, two reference letters, CV, degree, passport photo, publications) and submit by email to africaunit@kura.kyoto-u.ac.jp; wait for selection decision from Canon Foundation.
