Information

The Big Science Competition is a 50-minute mixed-format online science competition for students in Years 7 to 10 that tests science knowledge, critical thinking and problem-solving in real-life contexts. It covers biology, chemistry, physics and Earth and environmental sciences and is aligned with the Australian Curriculum – Science. The competition runs on an online platform over a ten-day period during which schools choose sitting dates. Students receive certificates indicating performance and schools receive detailed reporting on results.

Benefits

Students receive a performance certificate; schools receive comprehensive reporting comparing results to class, school and national averages. Australian schools and students may win prizes (T&C’s apply).

Eligibility

Open to all high school students in Years 7 to 10; competition is open to Australian and international schools. Registrations must come via schools, registered home schools, distance education facilities, or tutoring/education academies; direct student registrations are not accepted.

Application

Schools or authorised facilitators register students via the ASI Teacher Portal; new teachers request an ASI account via the provided form or subscribe to ASI Program Updates. Contact asi@asi.edu.au for support.
