Berggruen Prize Essay Competition

An annual essay competition inviting submissions in English and Chinese that pose fundamental philosophical questions and innovative concepts concerning contemporary life and the future. The competition awards substantial cash prizes and publishes winning essays; winners are celebrated at an annual ceremony. Submissions may be creative or argumentative essays and are not expected to be peer-reviewed academic work.

$50,000 USD prize for the winner in each language category; prize is distributed evenly if multiple winners. Winners are celebrated at an annual ceremony and their essays are published.

Entrants may submit one essay per year in either English or Chinese; co-authorship is allowed. Length limits apply (maximum 10,000 words in English or 15,000 characters in Chinese).
