Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers (MRSEC)

The MRSEC program provides sustained support for multidisciplinary materials research and education through campus-based research centers addressing fundamental problems in science and engineering. MRSECs may be located at a single institution or involve partnerships among multiple institutions and are composed of two to three Interdisciplinary Research Groups. The program supports materials research infrastructure in the United States and promotes collaboration between universities, industry, and international organizations.

Cooperative agreement awards to establish or sustain MRSEC centers; anticipated funding amount is $15,000,000 with an estimated 2 to 5 awards.

A MRSEC may be located at a single institution or may involve multiple institutions in partnership; the program supports materials research infrastructure in the United States.

Submission requires a required preliminary proposal (due June 23, 2025) and full proposal (due January 27, 2026); full proposals may be submitted via Research.gov or Grants.gov following NSF proposal instructions.
