56th International Physics Olympiad IPhO 2026

The International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2026 is an international physics competition for secondary school students, testing theoretical and experimental physics skills through written examinations. The 56th edition brings national teams to Bucaramanga, Colombia for in-person theoretical and experimental exams, cultural activities and award ceremonies. Teams consist of up to five students plus delegation leaders and the event includes moderation of grading and medal distribution. The competition aims to assess high-level knowledge, critical thinking, problem solving and hands-on laboratory skills.

Medals and awards (Gold, Silver, Bronze, Honourable Mention) and participation in cultural excursions and international scientific exchanges during the event.

Secondary school students under 20 years of age as of June 30, 2026, who have not commenced university studies, and who are citizens or permanent residents of the country they represent.

Participating countries receive invitation letters; pre-registration and full registration are handled on specified dates by national teams/delegations.
