The International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) 2026 is an annual international academic competition for high school students focused on astronomy and astrophysics. The 2026 edition will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam in August 2026 and includes theoretical and practical examinations covering astronomy, astrophysics, observations, and data analysis. Participants attend lectures, workshops, and observational sessions in addition to the competition. Students compete as members of nationally selected teams and do not register individually.

Eligibility

High school students under 20 years of age before July 1 of the competition year who have not completed high school (Grade 12) before January 1 of the competition year; students participate via national teams selected by their country's astronomy or science olympiad organisations.

Students are selected and entered by their national teams and national astronomy/science olympiad organisations; individuals do not register directly.
