NRF Postdoctoral Fellowships 2027 for emerging South African Researchers

The NRF Postdoctoral Fellowships provide postdoctoral research training across a wide range of disciplines in South Africa, supporting early-career researchers at public research institutions. The programme includes three categories funded by the Department of Science and Innovation and the Department of Higher Education and Training, with a focus on strengthening research capacity and innovation nationwide.

Annual stipend; research costs contribution per year; institutional support contribution; potential additional four months of support for maternity leave.

Applicants must conduct research at a public South African research institution and must have earned a doctoral degree within the past five years; those finishing their degree by 31 December 2026 may apply, and awards must be taken up by 30 June 2027.
