South Africa–Canada Seed Grant for Collaborative Research 2026

The South Africa–Canada Seed Grant for Collaborative Research offers funding to support joint research projects and international collaboration between researchers in South Africa and Canada. The program targets PhD-level researchers and aims to build long-term partnerships through interdisciplinary work and capacity development. Projects run for 24 to 36 months and may include activities such as joint publications, workshops, conferences, and research exchanges.

Financial support for research activities and mobility, opportunities to build international networks, potential for joint publications and capacity-building for early-career researchers.

Applicants must hold a PhD and be affiliated with an eligible South African or Canadian postsecondary institution, applying as part of a joint research team with one PI from each country.

Applications must be submitted through a joint process led by the South African PI via the NRF online system.
