University of Johannesburg (UJ) Artists in Residence Program 2026

The University of Johannesburg Artists in Residence Program invites artists to engage in practice-led research and showcase their work within the university community. The program supports creative projects across disciplines and offers a stipend as part of the residency. Applicants can choose between remote or physical residencies, with limited spaces for offices, studios, rehearsal, and performance areas.

Monthly stipend of R10,000; remote or physical residency options.

Applicants must not have affiliations with other tertiary institutions in South Africa and should hold a relevant post-school qualification. Disciplines include Visual Arts and Fine Arts, Music, Theatre, Performance and Dance, Design, Film and Television, and Literary Arts.
