The University of Johannesburg Artists in Residence Programme is a funded international residency for artists and arts practitioners, offering a 10-month residency with a monthly stipend. The programme targets both emerging and established artists worldwide, with a preference for applicants connected to Africa, and requires the project to function as arts-practice research. Selected artists are expected to produce outputs and participate in academic activities related to their residency.

Benefits

R12,000 per month for 10 months; temporary residency status at the University of Johannesburg; funding for the residency period.

Eligibility

Open to emerging and established artists worldwide, with preference for applicants connected to Africa; a relevant post-school qualification is required, and Master’s or PhD holders are given preference.
