Berlin Graduate School of Ancient Studies (BerGSAS) PhD Programme 2027

The Berlin Graduate School of Ancient Studies (BerGSAS) is a structured doctoral programme hosted by the Berliner Antike-Kolleg and involving Berlin institutions such as Freie Universität Berlin and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. It offers four doctoral tracks in ancient studies and normally lasts six semesters (approximately three years). Admission to BerGSAS is not automatically linked to a DAAD scholarship. applicants are generally expected to secure funding or apply simultaneously for external doctoral funding such as the DAAD Graduate School Scholarship Programme (GSSP).

Structured doctoral supervision, interdisciplinary curriculum, research training, and potential mobility to partner universities. When funded under DAAD-GSSP (in prior calls) benefits included a monthly stipend (€1,300 in a previous call), travel support, health insurance, a research allowance, rent or family allowances where applicable, and support for a German language course.

Applicants must hold a very good Master's degree in ancient studies or a related field; international students from all countries are eligible to apply.
