Information

The Breakthrough Junior Challenge is a global science video competition for students that invites entrants to create original short videos (up to two minutes) explaining a scientific concept or theory in an engaging way. It is open to work in the life sciences, fundamental physics, and mathematics and awards substantial prizes for the winning student, their teacher, and their school. The contest is conducted annually and includes public Popular Vote and expert judging rounds. Submissions are judged on the student’s ability to communicate complex scientific ideas imaginatively and clearly.

Benefits

Awards include $250,000 in educational prizes for the student winner, $50,000 for their teacher, and a science laboratory for the school valued at $100,000; total prizes amount to $400,000 for the winning entry.

Eligibility

Students ages 13 to 18 of any nationality may participate.

Application

Create and submit an original up-to-two-minute science video in English via the Breakthrough Junior Challenge entry process; submissions are posted for peer assessment and shortlisted for Popular Vote and final judging.
