Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) Germany 2026

Information

The Open-Access-Publikationsförderung is a DFG grant programme providing subsidies for the publication of research articles and scholarly books in open access. It allows eligible institutions to apply for fixed grants to cover publication costs calculated from the average number of DFG-funded articles; monograph subsidies are also possible. The programme includes a simplified application route for institutions that received six years of funding under the predecessor scheme OAK and a full application route for other institutions. Individuals who have received DFG funding may be eligible to apply in certain circumstances.

Benefits

Grants/subsidies toward open-access publication costs for research articles and scholarly books; allocation based on average annual number of DFG-funded articles and documented DFG-funded monographs.

Eligibility

Higher education institutions and non-university research institutions are eligible to apply; under certain circumstances individual researchers who have received DFG funding (including those not affiliated with an eligible institution and persons with special additional needs) may also apply.

Application

Applications are submitted exclusively via the DFG elan portal. Institutions apply annually (deadline 4 May) and may use a simplified form if they have six years of prior OAK funding; individuals may submit applications at any time. Registration in the elan portal is required prior to first application.
