The Connaught Major Research Challenge for Black Researchers 2025 provides funding to support Black-led research teams addressing major research challenges. The program is coordinated with the Connaught Fund and the Black Research Network and aims to seed new collaborations involving University of Toronto researchers, graduate students, and partners from other sectors and jurisdictions. Awards support research initiatives and collaboration with potential to advance to external funding opportunities.

Eligibility

The project must be led by a Black researcher at the University of Toronto, with a primary appointment at one of U of T’s three campuses, and includes a team of faculty representing at least two SGS divisions with both junior and senior members; graduate students should be meaningfully engaged as trainees.
