UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) Worldwide
2026
Information
A UKRI and FNR memorandum of understanding enables and supports collaborative research applications between UK and Luxembourg researchers. UKRI will fund the UK component and FNR will fund the Luxembourg component of eligible joint applications submitted to participating UKRI research councils’ responsive mode or named standard research grant opportunities. Applications are submitted and assessed through the participating UK research council funding opportunities and are subject to the councils’ normal terms, conditions and assessment procedures. The arrangement is a co-funding mechanism rather than a separate standalone funding scheme.
Benefits
Co-funding of the UK and Luxembourg components of eligible collaborative research grants under participating research councils’ funding opportunities.
Eligibility
The UK principal investigator must be employed by a UK research organisation eligible for UKRI funding and meet the participating research council’s eligibility criteria for the specific funding opportunity. Luxembourg applicants must be from FNR-eligible institutions (public research centres, the University of Luxembourg and authorised public bodies, departments and establishments in Luxembourg).
Application
Submit a joint application via the participating UK research council’s funding opportunity (using the Joint Electronic Submission (Je-S) system where applicable) following the council-specific guidance.
