Connecting Art Histories

Connecting Art Histories is a Getty Foundation initiative that awards grants to strengthen the global field of art history by increasing sustained intellectual exchange across nations and regions. The initiative supports regional project teams that bring together art historians with scholars from adjacent disciplines, arts professionals, and local cultural specialists. Funded activities have included intergenerational research seminars, virtual convenings, visiting professor programs, dissertation workshops, and graduate courses aimed at building capacity and professional networks.

Project grants to support activities such as research seminars, virtual convenings, visiting professorships, dissertation workshops, graduate courses, and related outputs (edited volumes, presentations).

The Foundation welcomes proposals from regional project teams that bring together art historians with scholars from adjacent disciplines, arts professionals, and individuals rooted in local cultural stewardship; projects have served early- and mid-career scholars.

Submit an inquiry by email including a brief statement (no more than 300 words) on the project's intellectual framework, expected participants, and relation to the initiative's goals.
