Pre-doctoral Research Bursary

The Pre-doctoral Research Bursary provides short-term funding to allow clinicians and other health professionals to gain experience and skills in cancer research before applying for PhD or MD fellowships. Awards fund a period of research up to 12 months and are intended to help applicants obtain preliminary data. Joint branded variants (with the Pathological Society or Prostate Cancer UK) offer increased combined awards for eligible applicants working in those areas.

Research funding of up to £25,000 for up to 12 months (up to £50,000 for certain joint schemes); support to obtain preliminary data prior to PhD/MD applications.

Applicants must be clinicians in training, nurses or allied health professionals eligible to complete clinical training and practise medicine in the UK. Applicants must not have registered for or completed a PhD/MD nor already hold a fellowship that allows them to undertake research. Host institution must be a UK university or research institute.

Applications submitted via Cancer Research UK's grants management system; applicants must have host institution approval and may be required to apply to a specific joint scheme listing where relevant.
