Information

The Free Society Grants provide funding to faculty to develop or expand undergraduate programming grounded in the liberal tradition. Eligible projects include faculty-led mentorship programs, reading groups, discussion series, student research workshops, undergraduate symposia, and support for student research and conference participation. Grants are awarded based on project scope and need and include access to the ScholarsEdge digital platform to support event registration and program management. The program expects that public lectures make up no more than 20% of grant activity unless paired with structured student engagement.

Benefits

Project grant funding based on scope and need; access to ScholarsEdge digital tools including registration support.

Eligibility

Applicants should be faculty with a defined project and institutional affiliation and must provide a preliminary lineup of speakers/readings, a clear description of student engagement activities, and a detailed budget breakdown. Adjunct or visiting faculty may apply and applications are reviewed case by case.

Application

Submit a proposal describing the project, preliminary lineup of speakers/readings, student engagement activities, and a detailed budget; out-of-cycle proposals may be submitted by email to FreeSocietyGrants@TheIHS.org.
