MBARI Postdoctoral Fellowships

The MBARI Postdoctoral Fellowships are two-year, in-person postdoctoral appointments supporting independent research in biological, chemical, and physical oceanography, marine geology, and ocean engineering. Fellows work with one or more MBARI mentors, collaborate across disciplines, and access advanced oceanographic research facilities and equipment. The fellowship is based at MBARI in Moss Landing, California.

Salary ($77,000 first year; $82,000 second year), relocation reimbursement, medical/dental/vision insurance, disability and life insurance, paid time off.

Applicants must have earned their Ph.D. before beginning the fellowship, preferably during 2026. The fellowship is a two-year, on-site appointment at MBARI in Moss Landing, California.

Submit curriculum vitae, 3–5 professional letters of recommendation (references may send letters directly), a succinct statement of doctoral research, a list of up to three potential MBARI mentors with brief justification, and a short proposal describing a potential research project.
