ICGEB Pre-doctoral & Postdoctoral Fellowship Calls (September 2026)

A set of competitive pre-doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships offered by the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in the fields of life sciences and biotechnology. Fellowships provide multidisciplinary, hands-on research training at ICGEB laboratories in Trieste (Italy), New Delhi (India) and Cape Town (South Africa). Positions include short-term and longer-term pre-doctoral and postdoctoral awards, with opportunities for international collaboration and capacity building. Most fellowships include financial support such as a monthly stipend, travel and insurance.

Monthly stipend (location-dependent), round-trip travel from home country to host lab, full medical insurance, visa/permit cost reimbursement, research costs supported by host laboratory, access to facilities and training, opportunities for collaboration and possible extensions/early-career grant eligibility

Degree level: pre-doctoral and postdoctoral candidates; applicants must be nationals of ICGEB Member States (with some region-specific calls) and generally cannot undertake the fellowship in their home country unless they have been working abroad for at least 3 years in some cases. Postdoctoral applicants require a recent PhD or at least three years research experience.
