Simons Foundation United States 2026

Information

A grant program to stimulate collaboration in mathematics by funding travel and related research expenditures. Awards are gifts provided annually for up to five years to support the PI's scientific travel, visits by collaborators, and certain research and departmental expenses. Funding decisions are based on prior research quality and the likely impact of the travel support on future research. The program will select up to 140 applications per year for funding.

Benefits

Annual gift up to $8,400 (for up to five years) to cover scientific travel for the PI and their students, visits by collaborators, research-related expenses (computers, publication expenses, supplies, membership fees), and department discretionary expenses.

Eligibility

Applicants must have a Ph.D. and hold a tenure-track or tenured full-time appointment in a mathematics department with a Ph.D.-degree-granting program at an institution in the United States; those with an appointment solely in a statistics department are not eligible. Applicants must have a current record of active research and publication and must not currently hold other external PI or co-PI grants with an end date after the start date of the gift (with specified exclusions).

Application

Apply online via the Simons Award Manager (SAM) and submit the Travel Support application via the gift-receiving entity of the applicant's institution.
