Applications are open for the NATO STO Women and Girls in Science Challenge 2026. Open to young women who are university students, early career researchers, or exploring a STEM career, the challenge invites participants to submit research proposals addressing defence-related challenges and fictional foresight scenarios. Finalists receive formal recognition, with winners possibly visiting CMRE in Italy, and opportunities to join the STEM Forward community.

Benefits

Finalists receive formal recognition from the NATO Chief Scientist; the three winners will visit the Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE) in La Spezia, Italy; finalists may join STEM Forward for scientific collaboration and knowledge sharing with NATO S&T communities.

Eligibility

Open to young women who are university students (bachelor, master, PhD), early career researchers, or those starting a career in STEM, aged 18-35, affiliated with a university and nationals of NATO countries.
