About this opportunity

The Wangari Maathai Fellowship Cohort II – 2026 is a hybrid climate leadership fellowship organized for young Tanzanian leaders. It combines financial support, mentorship, capacity building, and opportunities for real-world climate action projects over an eight-month period in 2026. Fellows design and implement climate projects with seed funding and mentorship, with potential post-fellowship opportunities and regional exposure.

Benefits & funding

Seed funding for climate projects (€500 sub-grant per fellow), structured learning sessions on climate policy and advocacy, training in project design and implementation, personal and professional development workshops, mentorship from climate experts, networking opportunities, and potential post-fellowship opportunities and regional exposure.

Eligibility

Applicants must be 18 to 30 years old, fluent in English and Kiswahili, based in Tanzania at the time of application, have some level of formal education, and demonstrate engagement in climate or environmental initiatives with a feasible project idea.
