Ghent University Special Research Fund – Doctoral Scholarships 2025

Applications are open for Ghent University Special Research Fund – Doctoral Scholarships 2025. The program funds PhD 'sandwich' scholarships allowing a PhD candidate to conduct half of their research at Ghent University (North) and the other half at a partner institution in the Global South (South). Ghent University finances the portion carried out in Ghent for 24 months, with co-funding required and a defined travel budget and bench fee for the Ghent portion.

Financial support for 24 months of PhD research in Ghent, bench fee, and travel budget for the partner and Ghent portions; partial funding for the research costs.

Candidates must originate from, and hold the nationality of, one of the Global South countries listed by Ghent University; proposals must be submitted jointly by the candidate, a Ghent University promoter, and a supervisor at the partner South institution; applicants must be at the beginning of their PhD and intend to obtain a joint PhD degree at Ghent University.
