The Ghent University Doctoral Scholarship (Special Research Fund - BOF) 2027 awards doctoral scholarships to promising researchers from eligible Global South countries to conduct part of their PhD research at Ghent University and part at a partner university or research centre in the Global South. The programme funds 24 months of doctoral research at Ghent University as part of a 48-month research period and provides international supervision from both institutions. The call aims to strengthen research collaboration between Ghent University and partner institutions in the Global South.

Applicants must hold the nationality of an eligible Global South country (Pakistan included), intend to obtain a doctoral degree from Ghent University (independently or via an approved joint PhD), have support from a Ghent University supervisor and a supervisor at a partner institution in the Global South, demonstrate full-time funding for the 24 months at the partner institution, and have at least 36 months of doctoral research remaining when the fellowship begins.

Applicants must secure a Ghent University supervisor and a partner-institution supervisor, prepare required documents (application form, research proposal, transcripts, CV, proof of funding for partner-institution period, supervisor confirmations) and apply via Ghent University's BOF doctoral scholarship call.
