About this opportunity
A ten-week summer research program for McGovern Medical School first-year medical students to gain hands-on laboratory experience under the supervision of a faculty sponsor. Participants receive training in laboratory and radiation safety, laboratory animal methodology, research technology, and biomedical ethics, attend weekly seminars, and work ~40 hours per week on a mentored research project. Students submit an abstract at the end of the program and present a poster at the annual Research Forum; abstracts are published as a collection in the TMC Library’s Digital Commons. The program runs May 26 through July 31, 2026.

Eligibility
Open to McGovern Medical School at UTHealth first-year (MS1) medical students for the summer between first and second year of medical school.
How to apply
MS1 online application period January 15 – March 23, 2026 via the MS1 Online Application portal; once submitted the application is routed to the mentor who must approve by 11:59pm CST on March 23, 2026. (Dean’s Contribution Funds deadline March 2, 2026.)
