About this opportunity

The Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) is an intensive nine-week mentored research internship for undergraduates interested in biomedical research. Under the guidance of a faculty mentor, interns complete an independent research project and present their findings at a competitive poster session. The program includes professional development workshops and weekly research seminars. Interns are paired with faculty in areas such as basic sciences, human biology, public health sciences, clinical research, vaccine and infectious disease, and translational science.

Benefits & funding

Stipend of $7,304; roundtrip travel reimbursement up to $450; option for on-campus housing (approx. $3,300 estimate); subsidized transportation pass ($45); mentoring and professional development workshops; presentation opportunity at a poster session.

Eligibility

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and entering the summer before their final year (or semester/quarter) of undergraduate studies, with a strong background in the sciences or a related area of interest.

How to apply

Submit a one-page Statement of Research Interests and Career Goals, transcripts, up to two letters of recommendation, and identify up to three faculty members of interest with short descriptions; selected applicants are notified by mid-March 2026.
