The ACARE African Women in Science Program 2026 is a transformative 11-month fellowship for early-career African women scientists from the African Great Lakes region. It aims to build capacity, provide mentorship, and advance research in freshwater science related to the African Great Lakes. Participants will join a cohort, develop professional networks, and receive skills training and leadership development opportunities.

Participants gain peer connections in a trans-boundary cohort, opportunities to build their professional network locally, regionally, and globally, receive feedback from the scientific community, partake in relevant skills training, and develop leadership capabilities.

Eligibility

Women between 23 and 40 years old who are nationals of one of the ten riparian countries of the African Great Lakes region and actively conducting scientific work or studies related to the lakes or their tributaries.
